Pha Khao Ma
Pha khao ma, traditional Thai plaid cloth. Woven cotton in burgundy, cream, olive, and orange plaid. Found in markets across Phuket and Thailand: sold by the meter, worn by workers, fishermen, and vendors. Wrapped as a sarong, a headscarf, a towel, or a sling. Function over form. One fabric, endless uses.
The pattern is specific: certain widths, certain color combinations, recognizable across regions. Not fashion, but a daily textile. Labor cloth that moves with the body, adapts to need.
This piece is gathered at the waist with ties, worn as a wrap skirt. The plaid remains unchanged, traditional weave, traditional palette. Styled as a garment, but still carrying its original purpose: flexible, functional, meant to be wrapped and rewrapped as the situation requires.
